Do you remember the new feature that WhatsApp had introduced last year? The feature is ‘Delete for Everyone’ that has let you entirely erase your texting gaffes from the conversation.

The company has now fixed it in the latest updates so that the feature becomes much more robust and tougher for abuse.

The new updates were issued few days ago those WABetaI fo combed through. The Delete feature was previously launched with a seven minute window last year. In this, one was able to delete the messages if that time the window hadn’t closed. It was later increased to 1 hour 8 minutes and 16 seconds.

The problem was that, the modders were using the altered versions of the application for cheating the feature. The same was down by tricking the application into thinking the phone was off, for the purpose of the back end delete request.

The problem was, modders were using altered versions of the app to cheat the feature. They did this by tricking the app into thinking the phone was off, for the purpose of the back end delete request. If a person’s phone was off during the entire 1 hour window, they wouldn’t receive the request and the message in question would stay on their phone despite being deleted from everyone else’s.

In the new update, window has been increased to 13 hours 8 minutes and 16 seconds and it also has one new ‘block revoke request’ check. If the person’s application do not receive the delete request from the sender within thr 13 hpur time limit then it will block the delete rather than carrying it out for everyone.

In this way, the sender has the knowledge of something which has gone wrong rather than any person in the group chat thereby retaining the message which  should have been shredded.

Since this is a back end feature, no user is able to interact with it after the original sender has clicked the ‘Delete for Everyone’ button.
