Reliance Industries Ltd(RIL) is trying to be a disrupter in the broadband market in India with the launch of Jio GigaFiber broadband. It is similar to what Jio did to the mobile phones with the launch of Reliance Jio. Albeit, the launch date is not known, Jio has announced a preview offer for all its broadband customers in which they won’t have to pay anything for free 100GB data from 3 months. The 90 day offer includes an internet speed of up to 100 Mbps.
The customers of Jio broadband have to pay a refundable security deposit of Rs. 4,500 against the Jio broadband modem known to be the optical line terminal (OLT). During the annual gathering meeting (AGM) which was held at the previous month, the chairman of Reliance Industries Limited, Mukesh Ambani had announced the Jio would soon start rolling out the broadband services useful for homes and offices. People around 1,000 cities would be able to use this service. It is being speculated in the market that Jio GigaFiber broadband will be available around the festive season of Diwali.

At the moment, one cannot apply for the Jio broadband connection but can just express their interest for applying one. According to the information from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai), it is understood that there are nearly 447.12 million broadband subscribers of Jio. Out of which, just a fraction i.e. 17.90 million have wired broadband connections. Once the Jio service is available, this minority number is expected to become a majority as the company promises offering the fixed line fiber based broad band services as cheap rates.
This would surely be a tough competition for other operators like BSNL and Airtel those have already reduced their prices and have come out with some fresh offers for retaining their customers those are planning to switch their loyalty to the new market entrant. Tata sky which has been offering only DTH TV connections has also launched its new broadband plans for competing with Jio. Amongst the number of subscribers the top 5 broadband service providers include Bharti Airtel, BSNL, MTNL, Hathway cable & Datacom and Atria Convergence Technologies.

Once you enter the address, next you need to need to enter your mobile number and name. next step includes entering the OTP number which you receive on your mobile phone. No need to submit your Jio number.
