IRCTC ties up with Trapigo for food delivery on passenger seats

The Indian Railways has appointed a last-mile delivery startup, Trapigo, that will deliver food orders placed online to passengers’ seats.

Food ordered on IRCTC’s e-catering website, or through its smartphone app called ‘Food on Track’ will be delivered by Trapigo for a nominal fee of Rs 15 per order. Users will also be able to track orders in real time.

Trapigo is a B2B logistics startup that was founded by a group of IIT, IIM, NIFT and NID alumni in 2017. It had started off in Mumbai by delivering flowers, cake, and food. Currently, it caters in all key Tier-I and Tier-II cities, according to its website. It added that delivering to traveling customers on a train is now one of their unique propositions.

MobileWalla raises fresh funding

Just after scaling its operations in India with its headquarters in Kolkata, MobileWalla, the US-based next-generation consumer data company, has raised $12.5 Mn in a Series B funding round.

The investment was led by New York-based GCP Capital with participation from its existing investor, Madrona Venture Group, and a new investor, ATW Partners.

MobileWalla also has offices in NYC and Atlanta in the US, Australia, London, and Singapore. Additionally, the company is looking to grow its data science team, enhance its ability to take strategic data acquisitions from partners, and make them even better and more precise.

Maharashtra, the first state to have a dedicated fintech policy, is also planning to have a dedicated ‘Fintech Officer’ in the Department of Information Technology, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said at the inauguration of the Mumbai Fintech Festival here.

Generally, a sandbox is seen as a safe zone to test financial innovation which sees a limited rollout of new products to select customers. S V R Srinivas, Principal Secretary (information technology) exhorted banks and non-bank lenders to open their APIs in order to help the startups in the state.
