Indo-Japan Startup Hub Begins Operation In IIMB Campus

Japanese External Trade Organisation (Jetro) in association with IT trade body Nasscom and Indian Institute of Management, Bengaluru (IIMB) on 30 April, formally inaugurated Indo-Japan Startup Hub in Bengaluru.

Hiroshige Seko, Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI) has pointed out that the decision to set up startup centre was taken during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Japan last year and it was mentioned in the joint statement of Modi and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

This would serve as a platform for the promotion of information exchange, business collaboration and investments between the vibrant and innovative startup ecosystems of the two nations.


WhatsApp CEO Jan Koum quits, Neeraj Arora may take charge

Amidst controversy over WhatsApp strategy and Facebook’s attempts to use its personal data and weaken its encryption, CEO, and co-founder of world’s most used messaging platform, Jan Koum has quit the company.
In 2009, the Koum along with Brian Acton co-founded WhatsApp and five years later they sold it to Facebook in a massive $19.3 billion. Acton, who already left WhatsApp has turned major critics of Facebook in recent times. With the exit of Koum, Facebook now comes under the scanner again.

Sources claim that the ex-CEO of WhatsApp was not happy with Facebook’s privacy and encryption policy and the disagreement led to quit the company.

Fintech startup MyLoanCare raises Series A funding

Gurugram-based B2C online loans marketplace MyLoanCare has secured $977.7K (INR 6.5 Cr) equity Series A funding from Ncubate Capital Partners, a private investment arm of SAR Group family office.

The startup intends to use the funding for branding, technology augmentation, and growth. MyLoancare also plans to enter new segments of the market including cards, savings, and investments.

Gaurav Gupta and Deepak Gupta founded the startup in 2013. MyLoanCare helps connect borrowers avail loans seamlessly with most suitable lenders.
