India’s biggest online travel company Make My Trip, invested an undisclosed amount in Bangalore based Bitla Software which provides the bus travel management software and the technology solutions. Make My Trip has also invested in companies like Mygola.com, Bona Vita Technologies, Inspirock, HolidayIQ and Bengaluru-based Simplotel in before.
Founded by Dasharatham Bitla in the year 2007, Bitla Software is a travel focused technology provider with software as a service (SaaS), cloud and mobile-based solutions to help customers expand their businesses. Its technologies are used by the bus GDSs, cargo and logistics companies in domestic and international markets, hoteliers, online ticketing portals, holiday tour operators and bus operators. Bitla Software has a proprietary software HolidaySimply.
“As clear market leaders in India’s online travel for air ticketing, hotel reservations and bus bookings, we look to foster faster innovations in order to accelerate growth in these travel segments,” said Deep Kalra, MakeMyTrip Chairman and Group CEO. Make My Trip was founded in 2000 by Rajesh Magow, Kalra and Keyur Joshi, MakeMyTrip offers services those include hotel booking, air ticketing, alternative accommodations bookings, rail ticketing, holiday planning and packaging, and even intercity bus ticketing. Its other brands include RightStay.com and Redbus.in. The company also forayed into the budget hotel segment last year, after indicating that it was all set to become a full-stack services player in the online travel agency segment.
MMT secured redBus brand as a part of its acquisition of Goibibo in 2016 and the bus ticketing business saw the issuance of 39 million tickets a growth of 48 per cent on a year on year basis.
