Girnar takes BigBasket to court over trademark violation

Teamaker Girnar Food and Beverages has taken online grocer BigBasket to court for infringement of the ‘Royal’ trademark, as per reports.

Girnar has approached Bombay high court with cases against two registered entities of BigBasket — SuperMarket Grocery Supplies Pvt. Ltd and Innovative Retail.

Bengaluru-based BigBasket has allegedly used Girnar’s “Royal” trademark to sell several products, including tea.

MobiKwik invests in Pivotchain for fintech offerings

Mobile wallet company Mobikwik said it has invested Rs 2 crore in Pune-based data science company, Pivotchain Solutions. The investment will strengthen Mobikwik’s fintech offerings.

Founded in 2017 by Deepak Rao and Yogendra Pratap Singh, Pivotchain Solutions is a predictive analytics firm with expertise in machine learning and artificial intelligence and has built exclusive AI and deep learning models for Mobikwik.

Cisco aims to spend $200 million in startup investments in 2018

Cisco Systems Inc., which has acquired over 200 companies over the past three decades and boasts of one of the most prolific corporate venture capital arms, plans to spend at least $200 million (₹1,351.7 crore) on startup investments this year.

Bharat Forge invests in UK’s electric truck startup Tevva

India’s auto component giant Bharat Forge has made a strategic investment of $13.5 million (£10 million) or about Rs.90 crores in Tevva Motors, a British and Israeli electric truck company incorporated and registered under the Companies (Jersey) Law 1991 carrying out its operations from Chelmsford, UK.

As part of this investment, Bharat Forge has also acquired a license for commercialization of the Tevva technology within India for strengthening its Research and Development activities in the e-mobility space.

Founded in 2012 by Asher Bennett, a former submarine officer in the Israeli Navy, Tevva provides electric powertrain solutions for Commercial Vehicles & buses in the 7.5-14 T weight category. This is soon to be extended for the development of new Commercial Vehicles, especially trucks and buses.
