He Gave Norton, Avast and Kaspersky a Run for Their Money: Kailash Katkar, Founder of the Quick Heal Antivirus

Kailash Katkar is one of the few big names from Indian IT industry, who have given American giants a run for their money. He the man behind the success of Quick Heal Technologies Pvt Ltd.

Katkar was born in a small village named Rahimatpura in Maharashtra.

He initially did a job at a local radio and calculator repair shop. The business was good but the average amount of income couldn’t keep him satisfied.

In 1990, he went ahead to start his own calculator repair business. Though due to the limited growth of that business, he called it a quit and he started a new venture in 1993, he started CAT computer services.

For his company purposes, his younger brother built a basic antivirus software which helped them keep the systems secured.

As they saw a substantial growth in the antivirus business, they commercialized their software as Quick Technologies Pvt. Ltd in 2007. He ranked at the position of chairman.

Today the company is the second-largest antivirus brand in Indian market coming next to McAfee.

He made strong B2B tie-ups and focused on seeing the software’s operating simple and functional.

Under his efficient leadership, he made Quick Heal a prominent name in the technology industry and beat down the multi national giants like Norton, Kaspersky, and Avast in the domestic market.

Today, Quick Heal has a workforce of more than 1500+ on-roll employees and as per a survey, every 3 out of 5 personal computers in India have Quick Heal installed in them. Quick Heal is also dubbed as the most user-friendly and light on system antivirus software by Digit.

In 2015, Quick Heal Technology was also been selected by the Government of Maharashtra as one of the business partners for a state-of-the-art software support at the newly proposed IIT (to be developed) at Pune.

And, all of this, Kailash Katkar has done without any formal technological or managerial education!
