Mukesh Ambani Enters Top 10 Richest List As Anil Ambani Strives To Survive Bankruptcy

Mumbai: Mukesh Ambani, Chairman, Reliance Industries, has made into the top 10 list of world’s richest people. His net worth is $54 Billion whereas his younger brother faded away due to a loss of over 65% of his assets.

Hurun Global Rich List 2019 shows yet again Jeff Bezos, Amazon Chief, topped consecutively for two years. His net worth is US$ 147 Billion. Ambani has occupied the tenth position on the list due to his INR 3.83 Lakh Crore network. It happened when RIL shares rallied and crossed the mark of INR 8 Lakh Crore in January.

Richest Indian Mukesh Ambani

Mukesh owns a 52% stake of Reliance. Anil Ambani was held by Supreme Court for showing reluctance to pay a huge debt of INR 540 Crore to Ericsson. He lost US$ 5 Billion from US$ 7 Billion. The major loss took place 7 years ago. Recently, he lost US$ 1.9 Billion from the inherited wealth.

The Hurun report says, “Having started off similarly after the break-up of the family wealth, Mukesh added USD 30 billion to his wealth in the past seven years, while Anil has lost over USD 5 billion during the same period.”

The report, released this Tuesday, says that the other Indian stalwarts are SP Hinduja, Chairman, Hinduja Group, worths US$21 Billion and Azim Premji, Chairman of Wipro, worths US$ 17 Billion.

Cyrus S Poonawalla, Chairman, Poonawalla Group, is the fourth richest Indian and has entered the list of top 100 richest men’s list. His net worth is US$ 13 Billion. Lakshmi Mittal, ArcelorMittal’s owner, is currently in the 5th position. Uday Kotak holds the 6th position with a net worth US$ 11 Billion. Gautam Adani holds the 7th position with a net worth US$ 9.9 Billion. Dilip Sanghvi, Sun Pharma, holds the 8th position with a net worth of US$ 9.5 Billion.

Cyrus Pallonji Mistry holds 9th position whereas Shapoorji Pallonji Mistry holds the 10th position their net worth is US$ 9.5 billion each. Both of them own 18.4% stock of Tata Group, India’s largest conglomerate.

As per the list, Smita Crishna, 3rd generation Godrej family heir, tops the richest female list. Her net worth is US$ 6.1 Billion. Kiran Mazumder Shaw, Biocon, and a self-made entrepreneur hold the 671st position with a net value of US$ 3.5 Billion.

Anas Rahman Junaid, Managing Director, Chief researcher, Hurun Report India, said, “Since 2012, this is for that first time that India has slipped to the fifth rank in the Hurun Global Rich List. An underperforming rupee and a lacklustre stock market resulted in the country losing one-third of the list.”

The report also suggests that the media giants Subhash Chandra, Zee, and Kalanithi Maran, Sun TV, did not make it to the list due to a substantial loss in their net worth.

Jeff Bezos might have topped the list consecutively for two years but his position will not be in the same place. He is divorcing his current wife who holds 16% of Amazon, world’s biggest online retailer.

The report also depicts that the list of influential persons has reduced from 2694 (2018) to 2470 in 2019. The aggregate wealth of 2470 enlisted individuals worth US$ 9.5 Trillion, 12% of cumulative global GDP.

Bill Gates, the Founder, Microsoft, currently holds the second position on the list with a net worth of US$ 96 Billion. Warren Buffet, Chairman, Berkshire Hathaway, is 3rd with a net worth of US$ 88 Billion. Bernard Arnault, LVMH, is 4th with a net worth of US$ 86 Billion. Mark Zuckerberg, Founder, Facebook, currently holds the 5th position with a net worth of US$ 80 Billion.
