Abhinandan Vardhaman To Be Honored With Mahavir Ahinsa Award

Wing Commander Abhinandan Vardhman of Indian Air Force will be honoured with the ‘Mahavir Ahinsa’ award. He will be the first person to receive a ‘Mahavir Ahinsa Award’ which is started by All India Digambar Jain Mahasamithi. An official from this organization gave this information on Sunday.

Paras Lohade, the caretaker of the Maharashtra unit of the organization, said here that the president of the organization Maninder Jain has announced the award to the pilot of the Indian Air Force in New Delhi. Lohade said that under this award, the cash award of Rs 2.51 lakh will be given, a memento and a citation will be given this year. This award will be given to Vardhaman on the occasion of Mahavir Jayanti on 17th April 2019.

During the airstrike combat battle in the air during the breach of Pakistani air fighters who violated the Indian airspace, the MiG-21 Aircraft of Abhinandan had fallen on February 27 in the Pakistan border after which the Pakistani army caught him. Earlier, Vardhman had taken down US made Pakistan’s F-16 aircraft. Pakistan had to leave Abhinandan in the midst of international pressure. On March 1, this brave warrior of the country returned home.

Wing commanders arrived in India on Friday (March 1st) at night around 11.45 pm at the Attari-Wagah border. He was first taken to the Air Force Central Medical Establishment (AFCME). He was later taken to the Army Research and Referral Hospital.

After being caught in Pakistan, Vardhman showed courage in dealing with difficult situations, for which leaders, diplomatic experts, former military personnel, celebrities, and the general public are praising him. Defense Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Chief of the Air Staff BS Dhanoa met on Saturday. Vardhman during the meeting with top officials told them that Pakistan had mentally tortured him while keeping him in captivity. Pakistan even released several viral videos of him.
