Raunaq Singh was one amongst the many refugees from the India-Pakistan partition. Many of the refugees who migrated to India from the other side of the border had to survive on petty jobs. However, some of them began their own small-scale business simultaneously dealing with the situations.

Raunaq Singh was born and brought up in Lahore, Pakistan. He was in the steel pipe business but had to leave all of it back due to the partition. He was empty handed with his family staying as a refugee with 13 other refugees in Delhi. He could only afford a paisa a day for the meals.

To make living he then joined a spice shop known as Munilal Bajaj and Company in Delhi. Later he sold his wife’s jewellery in Chandni Chowk market for Rs. 8,000. With the amount, he departed for Kolkata and tried to set up spice business but he failed. He was clever enough and established steel business the Bharat Steel Pipes, which he knew very well.

Raunaq Singh is one amongst those people who worked meticulously during the time to now becoming the most influential entrepreneurs of India. He started from zero to establishing one of the landmark companies of India.

He is the founder member of various esteemed brands like the Apollo Tyres Ltd., Bharat Gears Ltd., Bharat Steel Tubes Ltd. Also, he is the founder of the Raunaq Group, Raunaq International Ltd., Menarini Raunaq Pharma Ltd and Raunaq Motors. There are 9,000 people employed at his company and 20,000 get an indirect job.

With the initial struggles, Bharat Steel Pipes began to finally bloom and gave Raunaq the stimulation he needed to keep going. The market demand increased and he then decided to extend his business to other sectors. The success of the company grew up to acquire wide recognition. He began to expand the business by getting the license from the Kerala government to make tires. He launched Apollo Tyres as a small-scale company in 1975 which is now among the leading tire manufacturers in India.

Raunaq wishes to take the Indian industries to the world for which he makes diligent efforts. Currently, his son Onkar Singh is the chairman of Raunaq group which has an annual turnover of several crores.
