At some point of life or other, we all go through a self-crisis of low esteem or even higher on the contrary. Most of the times, it happens because of comparing pour own lives with someone else’s. This concerned act of wanna-be-ness doesn’t only affect our positive ego, but also results in sadness and also leads to anxiety for not being self-content.
So comparing our selves with others is basically bad. But this doesn’t happen voluntarily. It just happens when we look around and realize that the other person might be living a happier lifestyle. So how do we actually stop it?
One often values his possessions when he has already lost it. Do not be that ‘one’. When you’re lost in a world of comparisons, your focus is always outward, analyzing others. You forget that you already have a million and one things to be forever grateful for.
As Einstein once said:
Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.
What the quote refers there is that we’re all unique. We see things differently, we’ve all had different experiences (maybe with the same thing) and we all come from different paths of life. So comparing ourselves to others is no different than to comparing a fish to a monkey.
Perceptions can vary from person to person. Everyone can have a different take on things, and that makes him/her stand not in the way you want them to be. So, don’t be a close-minded person who only sees what he wants to. Do not judge anyone, because it is an attribute of your low self-confidence.
The greatest battle is that lies within.
It means one’s only war is to be held with his/her conscience. And, If you must compare, compare to yourself. Compare your past and present and ensure that your present is always better than your past. And then convert it into motivation.
It is wise to settle for what you can’t change.
Realise your weakness and strengths. Don’t under or overestimate yourself. Figure it correctly. Leading on from the last tip, change the things you want to and when you have, compare back to yourself and see how much you changed for the better. And with the things you can’t change, except that it was how you are supposed to be—own it, live it, love it.
