SaaS Startup UrbanPiper Raises Funding From Zoho Co-Founder, Kumar Vembu

SaaS (Software as a Service) startup UrbanPiper has raised an undisclosed amount in a pre-Series A funding round, as per media reports.

Co-Founder of Zoho, Kumar Vembu and UrbanPiper’s existing investor Axilor Ventures participated in the funding round.

What is a Saas business?

It is a method of licensing a piece of software via a subscription, and the delivery of the data can be accessed from anywhere, only if the person has internet connection and browser.

It is most popular with businesses that outsource their IT responsibilities.

SaaS eliminates the need to install and run applications on the company’s own computers, with benefits including automatic updates and flexible payments.

The burdens of security, availability, and performance lie within the service provider and not the business, thus putting less pressure on it.

About the startup

UrbanPiper was founded by Saurabh Gupta and Anirban Majumdar in 2015. It offers restaurants and chains with a suite of products to manage and analyze their online presence.

UrbanPiper is a business-to-business Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platform that offers a host of services such as white-label mobile apps, website, in-store engagement tools and customer relationship management (CRM).

Through its offerings, it enables hyperlocal e-commerce, m-commerce, loyalty, wallet and customer feedback.

Food delivery has become a significant aspect of business for restaurants across the country and UrbanPiper works towards making this experience a smooth one.

What do the founders and investors have to say?

Anirban Majumdar, co-founder, and CTO, UrbanPiper said,

“The funds raised will be used to crystallize our analytics product that will turn data into actionable insights for restaurateurs.”

The data that is generated would help the startup survive in the industry where 60% food businesses do not see success in the first year of the business, Majumdar explained.

Saurabh Gupta, CEO, and Co-founder of UrbanPiper said,

“Market size of food ordering in India is around 10 million orders/month and growing in double digits year on year. We have great validation and partners in Axilor Ventures and Kumar Vembu who come with decades of experience in building scale.”

With this round of funding, UrbanPiper plans to take the solution to several hyper-local verticals in existing market and also expand in the global market.

Kumar Vembu, co-Founder, Zoho said,

“In times where customer experience defines brand value and guarantees brand loyalty, we are excited to invest In UrbanPiper. The scalable, personalizable platform approach to deliver omnichannel shopping experience of UrbanPiper is sure to succeed with the focus and commitment of its founders. We are happy to back them.”

Back in December 2016, UrbanPiper had raised an undisclosed amount in funding from Axilor and a group of angels.
