GigIndia Known For Providing Micro-Jobs Raises Seed Funding From Angel Investors

A Pune-based startup GigIndia has raised an undisclosed amount of seed funding from a consortium of angel investors, as per reports.

The list of the investors includes Jessica Wong, Founding Managing Partner of Ganesh Ventures; Hiro Mashita, Director at M&S Partners; Xue Manzi, Director-Manzi Fund and Yiyun Zhang, CEO at Pocket Part Time. 

About the startup

GigIndia was founded in 2015 by Sahil Sharma and Aditya Shirole, GigIndia offers part-time work opportunities for students to help them earn as well as build their CV for their future jobs. The startup is known for providing micro-jobs to students and giving them the opportunity to build their CV with the big names of the industry like Alibaba, Xiaomi, SHAREit, Uber, and Paytm etc.

With the newly raised funding, GigIndia intends to expand, hire more staff and shape the product with automation techniques to enhance the experience of the users.

Talking about the funding, Sahil Sharma, Co-founder, and CEO of GigIndia said,

“Till now our focus was on enhancing the user experience by constantly improving GigIndia as a platform, but with the infusion of funds, we will be focused on scaling our business to multiple cities and campuses in 2018.”

Other competitions in the market

GigIndia competes with players like Awign, LetsIntern in the sector of student internships and part-time jobs.

In January 2018, Bengaluru-based outsourcing by crowdsourcing platform Awign raised $783K (INR 5 Cr) from Unitus Seed Fund and a couple of undisclosed angel investors. With this funding, the startup expanded its presence in 12,000 cities across India. It also intends to partner with 100 other startups and corporates by June 2019.

Delhi-based online and mobile internship platform, Letsintern was acquired by Gurugram-based job credentialing platform, Aspiring Minds in December 2015. However, the LetsIntern team continued to scale up the platform.

Despite all the years of education and hard work, most of the students are unemployed, getting rejected or work without any job satisfaction. Lack of experience and inadequate skills are the major reasons behind this. In such an atmosphere, the idea of freelance, part-time jobs have not garnered much acceptance. But it is indeed a growing sector that is going to help the country’s youth with their persisting problem of unemployment. Startups like GigIndia are doing a commendable job and the expansion and growth of the startup with the new funds is worth taking a note of.
