The IISc Grad Who Left His High Salaried Day Job to Educate Poor Children About Science!

Sridhar is a graduate from IISc, one of India’s top-most educational institutions which select only cream students to get enrolled and study engineering. The college also promises good placements and a better career in science.

But in spite of having a high-salaried job, the thirty years old grad has resigned to build something which can give students a chance to fall in love with science.

The social entrepreneur had finished his master’s in instrumentation from the IISc and worked for an MNC in Pune for some years.

But he did not find the stint meaningful as he could not give back any value to the society.

For me to call your life successful, there has to be a particular value addition at the society from your end.

And that was exactly when he decided to try and make science interesting for students.

He targeted the underprivileged children, who would otherwise not get much of an opportunity.

And to attain his vision, he started to work with Seva Bharti Government Higher Primary School in Bengaluru as a robotics mentor.

After completing my master’s in engineering from IISc, I was into a well-paying job. That’s when I started volunteering at government schools and in slums. I wanted to teach kids science, using practical and fun ways. During my three years in Pune, where I was working with an IT firm, I often wondered how children could take to loving science. In 2014, I came to Bengaluru.

Last year, Sridhar’s students, participated in the RoboCup event, an event where students from all over the world come to demonstrate their talent. Their team was called Mastermind.

But the real story came out this year when Sridhar crowdfunded the entire amount to sponsor his students to take part in the RoboCup. Because since the tournament was happening in Japan this year, they ran short of money. But it was Sridhar who took the responsibility to ensure that his students go and take part in the prestigious tech tournament.

These children pick up anything that is practical and where they can use their hands. They were able to sustain their interest as they were able to apply every concept I taught them.

And now Sridhar can for once be called a real-life hero whose journey proves that if you believe in something, it will happen for sure!
