WHO Declares The Coronavirus Outbreak A “Pandemic”

Coronavirus is now officially declared a pandemic by the world health organization (WHO). An outbreak of a disease is considered or declared as pandemic when it occurs over a massive geographical area. So far till now, coronavirus has killed more than 4,300 people globally.

According to Tedros Adhanom (WHO Cheif) in press briefing in Geneva, “WHO has been assembling this outbreak around the clock and, we are deeply concerned both by the alarming levels of spread and severity and by the alarming level of inaction. We have therefore made the assessment that COVID 19 can be characterized as a pandemic.“

Tedros added that the term Pandemic could not be used lightly and carelessly. It is a word if misused can cause unreasonable fear or unjustified acceptance that the fight is over, leading to unnecessary suffering and death. Tedros further said, “This is not just a public health crisis; it is a crisis that will touch every sector — so every sector and every individual must be involved in the fight. Describing the situation as a pandemic does not change WHO’s assessment of the threat posed by this coronavirus.”

Moreover, the US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases has stated that pandemic is a global outbreak which is fatal for the human race.

It is a new illness which is quite severe and requires “sustained transmission throughout the world.” Furthermore, according to the institute coronavirus, when compared to seasonal flu, is ten times more fatal.

WHO has declared this disease as pandemic when the cases of this deadly virus were quickly increasing around the world. In just two weeks, the number of cases in china alone was 13 fold. Coronavirus cases are now rising spontaneously in countries like Italy, South Korea, Iran. Major cities in these countries are under lockdown, and the global economy is walloped.
