There is good news for women candidates who wish to work in Indian Railways. In fact, Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal has declared that women will be given 50 percent posts in the recruitment of more than 9,000 constables and sub-inspector posts in the Railways. It is an amazing initiative to empower women. 50% of the posts will be recruited by Indian women. This will prove to be a golden opportunity for women. Railway minister Piyush Goyal stated that this step will ensure the empowerment of women, as well as enhance their representation in the Railway Protection Force.
Because of the low number of women in the Railway Protection Force (RPF), 50 percent of seats will be reserved for them. In the Rajya Sabha, Railway minister stated that currently, 2.25 percent of the RPF women are women. In such a condition, the Prime Minister has given special directions that more women should be recruited.
In January 2019, Indian Railways had announced the decision to provide more than 4 lakh people under 10 percent reservation till 2021. It was stated that the recruitment process would be started soon. Piyush Goyal had said that at present, Indian Railways has an approved number of 15.06 lakh employees, out of which 12.23 lakh employees are employed whereas the remaining 2.82 lakh posts are vacant.
Piyush Goyal said, “Last year, we had started the recruitment process for more than 1.51 lakh posts, in which 1.31 lakh posts were vacant, with this, about 99,000 posts will be vacant in the coming two years due to the present employees will retire soon. Piyush Goyal said that recruitment will be available for a total of 9000 posts, but due to the low number of women in the RPF, 50 percent seats will be reserved for them.
