Experts: Keeping the Immune System Healthy Can Help Fight Against Coronavirus

Its been a week since the WHO has declared coronavirus a pandemic disease. Till now, more than 7900 people have died, and the coronavirus cases have risen to 1,99,000. The coronavirus is so much contagious that it can survive for up to 72 hours without any host medium.

People having a weak immune system are mostly getting affected, and the mortality rate is higher among them. People with a history of respiratory disorders are under a high risk as well. The most crucial thing at this time of pandemic is to keep the immune system of the body healthy and strong enough to fight against coronavirus.

According to three immunologists Timothy Craig (Penn state medical center), Cathryn Nagler (University of Chicago), John Wherry (Penn state medical center), the best way to prevent COVID-19 is to avoid exposure. Washing hands regularly after regular intervals of time can also highly reduce the risk of getting a virus. Keeping the immune system healthy can help fight against the COVID-19 virus.

According to the doctors, one can keep their immune system healthy by following these basic measures –
  • Eating a healthy diet rich in vegetables, fiber, and whole grains.
  • Get seven to nine hours of sleep.
  • Maintain a healthy weight by doing exercise.
  • Try to manage stress, anxiety, depression by doing meditation and Yoga.
  • Quitting smoking and drinking.
  • Avoid red and exotic meat.
Why eating healthy food is essential

A healthy diet includes adequate intake of food rich in nutrients and drinking sufficient amount of water every day. The essential elements found in food like carbohydrates, proteins, fats and oils, vitamins, and minerals can help keep the immunity of body strength. Having a strong immunity can help recover from coronavirus soon. Moreover, one doesn’t need to panic due to coronavirus, as so far, more than 82,000 people have recovered from coronavirus.

Numerous health supplement commercials and advertisements of products have claimed to cure coronavirus. However, experts in Food and Drug Administration have warned that no such vaccine or medicine is developed till now that can cure the COVID-19 virus.
