External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said on 24th June that his ministry has given a proposal in favor of e-passport and for giving priority to the safety of passengers. It was told that in the coming future, e-passports will be released in view of advanced and security. According to the media sources, e-passports containing unique electronic chip will be released from this year. E-passports will be issued to everyone at the time of renewal of passport.
Speaking on the seventh passport service day, Jaishankar said that the ministry has started a discussion with the ‘Indian Suraksha Press’ about the project to issue the Chip-Enabled-e-passport. The minister said, “We propose to extend the e-passport on the basis of priority, so that passport with advanced security facilities can be prepared in the future.”
He said that work on improving passport service, expansion and globalization is going on in the 21st century. There is a plan to open at least one Passport Seva Kendra in every Lok Sabha constituency of the country. He also said that soon the electronic chip containing passport will be issued.
The External Affairs Minister said that after the US and China, India has become the third largest passport issuing country in the world. Nearly eight crore citizens have passports at this time in the country. He also said that 413 Post Office Passport Seva Kendras have been opened in the country in collaboration with the Department of Indian postal service. Apart from this, together with 93 passport offices, 505 passport service centres are issuing nearly one crore passports annually in the country. While addressing the inaugural program, the revolutionary reforms will continue in passport services started by his predecessor Sushma Swaraj.
Jaishankar said that good work has been done by the Ministry of External Affairs for passport services in the last five years. The mandate of the Ministry of External Affairs is to ensure good governance, transparent, efficient, timely and effective.
Due to these facilities, the children of a divorced couple no longer have to face difficulties like issuing passports for the first time. Instant passport applicants are no longer required to submit certification documents from any Gazetted officer.
